Collingwood coach Craig McRae has indicated that the reigning premiers won’t be complacent during this year’s trade period, hinting at a potential area where the Magpies might seek reinforcements while also discussing the future of an unsigned veteran player.

Although the club’s ability to attract top-tier talent is somewhat limited by the absence of a first-round pick in this year’s AFL Draft, McRae emphasized that they are still open to trading future selections and leveraging free agency. One player linked to a potential return to the club is former Magpie and current Crows defender Mark Keane. While McRae didn’t confirm their interest in Keane specifically, he stressed the team’s commitment to improving its list.

McRae mentioned that adding tall forwards could be a priority but humorously expanded that they would love to bolster every position, from inside midfielders to key defenders and wingmen. He highlighted the importance of continually improving the team to remain competitive.

Regarding the future of veteran Steele Sidebottom, McRae expressed that the two-time premiership player deserves a new contract and emphasized the value of retaining experienced players to mentor the younger squad members. While no deal has been finalized, McRae hinted that an extension for Sidebottom is likely in the near future.
