As they continue rebuilding their roster under CEO Shane Richardson and head coach Benji Marshall, the Wests Tigers have reportedly been linked with yet another forward from another NRL club.
Following consecutive wins against the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Manly Sea Eagles, the Tigers are feeling confident as they head into a bye round. While aiming to avoid finishing at the bottom of the ladder for the first time in three years, the club remains focused on future growth.
Having already been linked to players like Corey Horsburgh, Jack Bird, and Royce Hunt, the Tigers are now reportedly interested in recruiting Kobe Hetherington from the Brisbane Broncos.
“The latest player they’re targeting is Kobe Hetherington, the Broncos forward,” journalist Brent Read mentioned on Triple M’s Monday Scrum. “He could be available, and the Tigers are looking at him too.”
Kobe Hetherington, the son of former Queensland Maroons and Kangaroos player Jason Hetherington, has played 77 games for the Brisbane Broncos since his debut in 2021, including 22 this season. Versatile across the forward positions, the 25-year-old typically comes off the interchange bench but can play longer minutes when required.
This season, Hetherington has amassed 1,483 total running meters (67 per match), completed 527 tackles with a 94.4% efficiency, made 25 tackle busts, and scored a try against the Gold Coast Titans in Round 22.
Former South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou praised Hetherington on the radio, saying, “He came through as a nine and then a 13. I remember coaching him and thinking, he’s got something special. He works hard, has a competitive spirit like his dad, and he’s perfect for the Tigers. He’d be a great addition to their team.”
