With the NFL trade deadline approaching on November 5, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst may look to make some moves. FanSided’s Rucker Haringey included a hypothetical trade involving Rashan Gary in his list of “nightmare” deals the Packers should avoid. The proposed trade would send Gary to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick.

“Rashan Gary has been inconsistent this season, frustrating the Packers,” Haringey noted. “Despite a strong performance in the Week 7 win against the Texans, his 2024 season overall has been disappointing. It’s plausible that Green Bay could look to capitalize on his potential if the right offer comes along.”

For the Lions, Gary would fill a void left by Aidan Hutchinson, who suffered a broken leg. Although Gary signed a four-year, $96 million extension with the Packers last season, his production hasn’t justified the contract. Still, it’s unlikely that Green Bay would trade him to a division rival.

“There’s no way the Packers should let Gary stay in the NFC North,” Haringey wrote. “The risk of him improving a competitor is too high to justify the return. In this deal, the Lions would provide a decent draft pick while bolstering their pass-rush as Hutchinson recovers.”

Gary’s standout performance against Houston may signal a turnaround, and while trading him would free up cap space for Green Bay to extend one of their young receivers, the Packers are unlikely to part ways with their former first-round pick. He remains a locker room leader and is well-regarded by the coaching staff.
