White Sox Rally Late to Snap Skid with Gutsy 8–4 Win Over Red Sox

BOSTON, What began as another familiar mess for the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park on Sunday afternoon took a surprising and welcome turn. Despite an early deficit, shaky defense, and mounting pressure, the White Sox clawed their way back to earn a much-needed 8–4 victory over the Boston Red Sox—snapping a six-game losing streak in the process.

The win not only lifts some weight off Chicago’s shoulders, but it also sets the stage for a potential series split in Monday morning’s finale.

Early Struggles Give Way to Resilience

The White Sox actually struck first in this back-and-forth affair. Luis Robert Jr. worked a walk in the top of the first inning, and Matt Thaiss followed by launching a two-run homer to right, briefly giving Chicago a 2–0 lead.

But that lead didn’t last long.

Chicago’s defense faltered in the bottom half of the inning, with back-to-back errors by Lenyn Sosa and Miguel Vargas setting up a three-run blast by Boston’s Wilyer Abreu. An RBI single from Jarren Duran in the second inning made it 4–2 in favor of the Red Sox, putting the pressure squarely on young starter Sean Burke.

Despite the rough start and constant baserunners, Burke showed impressive composure. He managed to complete five innings, surrendering just one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks—a strong showing and his best since Opening Day.

Offense Awakens Just in Time

Boston starter Tanner Houck looked dominant through six innings, keeping Chicago’s bats quiet after that early home run. But once the Red Sox turned to their bullpen in the seventh, the tide shifted.

Sosa kicked off the inning with a single, followed by back-to-back hit-by-pitches to load the bases. Brooks Baldwin laid down a bunt that brought in a run, and then Edgar Quero, pinch-hitting for Nick Maton, came through with a clutch two-run single up the middle to put the White Sox back on top, 5–4.

Power Surge and Bullpen Domination Seal the Deal

In the eighth, Luis Robert Jr. greeted former Sox closer Liam Hendriks with a single and a stolen base. Moments later, Andrew Vaughn crushed a 405-foot homer over the Green Monster to extend the lead to 7–4. The Sox added one more in the ninth thanks to a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.

Chicago’s bullpen was rock-solid down the stretch. Brandon Eisert, Stephen Wilson, and Cam Booser combined for four shutout innings, giving up just one hit and one walk to slam the door on Boston’s offense.
